The Renovation of the Cardinal Mill
The Cardinal Mill was completed in 1904. It ran until 1942. In 2004, the Boulder County Tunnel and the Cardinal Mill were sold to Boulder County Parks and Open Space. Historic Boulder, Inc., a private/nonprofit company, applied for grants and coordinated renovation funds.

For its 100th Birthday, the Cardinal Mill was bequeathed with grants from the State of Colorado Historical Fund, the Colorado Department of Health & Environment, Boulder County, and the Science and Cultural Facilities District for a total of $625,500.

Renovation of the Cardinal Mill began in the fall of 2005 with the reconstruction of the stone retaining wall which was originally built by the Cornish Miners at the turn of the century. CDPHE hired Yenter Companies to rebuild the wall. They began in August and finished in October.

Currently, the structure itself is being renovated. The Mill may be open for tours as early as June 2012.
